This Christian suncatcher is centered on the presentation of the baby Jesus in the Temple. This event is recorded in Gospel Of St. Luke (2: 21- 38) and is contemplated in the fourth joyful mystery of the rosary. Here Mary and Joseph fulfill the Mosaic Law (Leviticus 12, 2-8) and in imitation of Hannah (1 Samuel 1, 24-28), where she offers the child Samuel to God for consecrated service.
Simeon and Anna, who speak about the child Jesus to all who were
awaiting the redemption of Israel, represent the hopes and expectations of
faithful and devout Jews who at this time were looking forward to the
restoration of GodŐs rule in Israel.
Simeon, prompted by the Holy Spirit, prophesies that Jesus would also
bring light (salvation) to all the Gentile nations. Simeon also prophesies that Jesus would be destined for
the rise and fall of many in Israel and that he would be a sign of
contradiction. He also prophesies that Mary would suffer a great deal sharing
in the suffering of her son Jesus.
