THE CHURCH - PENTECOST 2

At the center of this stained glass graphic is the Holy Spirit who is the soul of the church. The flames immediately surrounding the Holy Spirit as well as those radiating throughout the rose window represent his work of sanctification in Love & Truth. His grace actualizes the sacraments and authorizes the Sacred Scriptures. The flames of Love & Truth are visible signs of his constant purification& renewal of the church as well as the inspiration of the infallible teaching office of the Pope& the bishops in communion with him. The flames also represent his gifts & fruits that inspire the faithful to various charisms in the church such ass prophets, preachers, healers, etc. as well as poets, artists, composers, songwriters, and scientists.

Radiating out from the inner circle of the Holy Spirit are twelve circles that represent the twelve Apostles. The Apostles were given the charisms of founding the church as well as feeding the flock (sacraments) and protecting it with infallible authority in faith and morals. The one with the large white center represents St. Peter & his successors. Radiating past the Apostles are twelve stars with a red/yellow circle that represents the saints of the church triumphant. Radiating past the saints are 24 large shields that represent the faith of the church, which the Holly Spirit brings to life & perfection in the works of charity & justice. Radiating past the shields of Faith are 24 diamond shapes each with a cross that represents the souls in purgatory of the church suffering. Just past the Church suffering the 24 Trinitarian circles that represent the faithful on earth of the church militant. The Trinitarian circles reflect the share of divine life the faithful members of the church on earth experience. Just past the Trinitarian circles are twenty-four stars that represent the angels of God who minister to the people of God.

Above the rose window is an image of the glorious Cross of Christ within a sun. This image represents the rise of Christ in the blossom of the Father as head of the Church. On either side of the sun-cross are two Greek letters alpha & omega that Jesus used to describe him as the beginning and the end of all things.

In the upper corners of the print are two large stars that represent St. Michael and St. Gabriel. These two archangels are the great defenders of and messengers to God’s people.

Below the rose window is a large circle that contains an image of the holy name of Mary who is Mother of the church.

In the lower corners of the print are two large circles each containing a star within a star. The inner blue five-pointed star represents the Old Testament & the old Israel and the outer golden eight-pointed star represents the New Testament and the new Israel, the Church. Both the old and new testament contains and point to one Word of God- Jesus.
