DIVINE MERCY

This Catholic art print is focused on the image that St Faustina was given by Jesus to her in an apparition in 1931 to have reproduced and venerated throughout the world. This image and all that it represents including the divine mercy chaplet, novena and now Mercy Sunday have spread throughout the world and has been a devotional source of repentance/conversion for a great number of souls worldwide.

Pope John Paul II canonized Sister Faustian, through whom our Lord gave his thirst for souls to come to his abyss of mercy to the whole world, in 2000. Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska wrote a beautiful diary that contained words from Jesus spoken to her during various apparitions starting on Feb. 22, 1931.In her diary she quotes Jesus' words to her. "Have an image painted according to the pattern you see with the signature Jesus I trust in you. I desire this image be venerated throughout the world. The two rays denote blood and water. The pale rays stand for the waters, which make souls righteous. The red rays stand for the blood, which is the life of the soul. These two rays issued forth from the depths of my tender mercy when a lance on the cross-opened my agonized heart. On the cross the fountain of my Mercy was opened by a lance for all souls - none have I excluded? The greater the sinner the greater the right he has to my mercy. Let no soul fear to draw near to me, even though its sins be as scarlet." In the conversations Jesus often refers to His mercy as an ocean of mercy or as an abyss of mercy as His mercy is divine ass well as human.

In this image we can see Jesus appearing in the midst of the darkness of sin offering to us all His divine mercy. This image is now venerated in many homes, shrines and churches throughout the world. Starting from the top of the window is a dove that symbolizes Holy Spirit who anoints Jesus’ humanity represented in the fire like red-yellow-orange ribbon that cascades around him. The seven stars represent the seven spirits (angels) that surround the throne of God (book of revelations). The twenty small light blue beads represent the twenty mysteries of the rosary, which is contemplative prayer on the life of Jesus and Mary while on earth and their life of glory now in heaven.

The two large circles on either side of the central image each contain the five-pointed star of the old covenant and the eight-pointed star of the new covenant, which speak of the one Word of God- Jesus. The circle in the lower right of the window contains the Holy Eucharist that represents Jesus ongoing presence and love among us. The circle in the lower right of the window is the sacred heart of Jesus, which represents his burning human love and thirst for souls to come to Him.
